June is a transitional moment – between the quiet spring and the tourist peak of summer. For many, this is the best time to vacation in Tenerife, especially if they want to avoid the crowds, the heat from southern Europe and…. overpaying. And what does it look like in Tenerife? What’s the weather like, how much do flights cost, what can you do on the island then and what to expect? Everything in turn.
Weather in Tenerife in June – stability and no surprises
Tenerife in June is a climate that gives the word “vacation” a very predictable version. In a positive sense.
Temperatures
In the south of the island (Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas), thermometers usually show 24-27°C during the day, although there are days with temperatures closer to 30°C. At night it drops to around 19-21°C – warm enough for evening walks, but it’s worth carrying a thin sweatshirt.
The north of Tenerife (Puerto de la Cruz, La Laguna) is sometimes a few degrees cooler, especially in the morning and evening. Here it clouds over more often, but rain is a rarity – if it does appear, it is in the form of a passing drizzle.
Precipitation and wind
Rain in Tenerife in June is the exception. Statistically, the south has
The wind? Yes, there is. Especially in the central part of the island and around El Médano – a paradise for kite surfers. For the casual tourist it’s a light breeze rather than something bothersome, but if you’re planning to hike on Teide, for example, it’s worth checking the forecasts – it can blow specifically there.
Flights to Tenerife in June – how much they cost, how to look for them
June is the last month before the high season (i.e. July and August), which translates into friendlier airfares.
From Poland (Warsaw, Katowice, Krakow, Poznan, Wroclaw) until mid-June you can find round-trip tickets for as low as 600-900 PLN, although of course it all depends on the date and the carrier. The closer we get to the end of the month – the prices increase, especially for popular low-cost lines.
Tips:
- Avoid weekend departures – Tuesdays and Wednesdays are cheaper.
- Check out both airports – Tenerife South (TFS) and Tenerife North (TFN) – although flights from Poland are mainly southbound.
- June is a good time for last-minute deals – hotels still have plenty of choice, and flights can drop in price even a week before departure.
What’s worth doing in Tenerife in June?
June is a month when there is a lot going on on the island, but without the tourist hustle and bustle of July and August. Here are some specific suggestions:
1. hiking – weather perfect for trekking
In June, temperatures are ideal for exploring Teide National Park, the Masca Gorge, or the lesser-known routes in Anaga and Teno. It is warm, but not hot. The vegetation is still fresh after the spring rains, and visibility is often surprising – especially in the morning.
Tip: If you’re planning to climb to the top of Teide, book a tour with a legitimate guide in advance – even in June, availability can be a problem.
2. beach-no fighting for a deck chair
It’s already getting summer-like on the southern beaches, but there are no crowds from the mainland yet. The ocean water is about 21-22°C – still chilly for some, but perfect refreshment for others.
3. water sports – ideal conditions for surfing and diving
June is a great time to scuba diving – visibility underwater is very good and the number of participants is lower than in the peak season. With a Polish guide you can experience this adventure, even if you have no experience at all
El Médano – a town in the southeast – becomes a paradise for kitesurfers in June. Daily thermal winds create ideal conditions for board sports.
4. festivals and local celebrations
In June there is Noche de San Juan, a festival of fire and the summer solstice, celebrated on June 23. The biggest bonfires and parties are on the north coast – in Puerto de la Cruz and on the beaches around Santa Cruz.
June also marks the end of Corpus Christi in La Orotava, the famous carpets of flowers and colorful sand created in the streets. This is one of the most beautiful local festivals in Tenerife – it’s worth fitting your trip into this date (26-29.06)
June and the crowds of tourists – not yet the season
Although the weather is already summer, June is still the pre-season – which means:
- Fewer people in hotels and on beaches.
- More choice in restaurants.
- Shorter queues for attractions such as Loro Parque and Siam Park.
If you like a quieter pace, but don’t want to give up the fullness of the attractions – this is a really good time.
What to bring with you to Tenerife in June?
Practical list:
- Light summer clothing, but also a thin sweatshirt for evenings.
- Sunscreen – the sun can take you by surprise, even when it’s slightly overcast.
