Day 1 – Teide National Park and the village of Masca

Teide National Park – the heart of the island

On the first day, it is worth heading to the interior of the island. Teide National Park is the absolute number one attraction of Tenerife. At its center is Spain’s highest peak, Teide (3718 meters above sea level). This is the volcano that shaped the entire island.

What to do that day?

  • Drive one of the scenic routes through the caldera
  • A stop at the Roques de García rock formations
  • Entry by Teleférico del Teide cable car (optional) – note, tickets for the cable car must be purchased in advance
  • A short trek on one of the marked trails

The landscape of Teide is reminiscent of Mars – no wonder scenes for science fiction films were shot here. The whole thing is very impressive. For those eyes insatiable with the views, we recommend returning via the route on the opposite side. If you’re staying overnight in the south, it’s worth driving over the Teide Volcano to the northern part of the island to see the beautiful scenery above the sea of clouds.

Tip: arrive in the morning or late afternoon before sunset – the light is most beautiful then.

Masca village – a pirate village hidden in the mountains

A picturesque village hidden in the Teno mountains. Legend has it that pirate treasure is hidden in the mountains. But above all, the village of Masca is known for its stunning landscapes. The road to Masca village is one of the most spectacular routes on the island.

You can:

This is a must-see item on your 7-day Tenerife itinerary.

Day 2 – Tenerife’s north and colonial atmosphere

The north of the island is greener and more authentic than the south. It’s incredible how diverse the landscape in Tenerife can be. In such a small area you can see a lunar landscape, evergreen forests, valleys and mountains. All this gives the island a unique character. What is worth seeing during your 7 days in Tenerife in the north?

San Cristóbal de La Laguna

The UNESCO-listed city impresses with its colonial architecture, colorful townhouses and peaceful atmosphere. Be sure to visit the cathedral, the cobblestone streets, and sit in one of the local cafes and enjoy the famous barraquito coffee. It tends to be cooler in La Laguna than in the north, so don’t forget to dress appropriately.

Puerto de la Cruz

A seaside resort with the beautiful Lago Martiánez pool complex and the black Playa Jardín beach. It’s a great place for a leisurely stroll by the ocean. Puerto de la Cruz is also known for Tenerife’s largest zoological park, Loro Parque. You can buy tickets to the park on our website: click here.

Day 3 – Anaga Mountains and wildlife

Anaga Mountains

This is one of the most magical places on the island. The mist hovering over the laurel forest creates an almost fairy-tale atmosphere. These are some of the best preserved ancient laurel forests. It’s worth at least a short walk here, such as Sendero de los Sentidos or Bosque Encantado. One of the more famous spots is also Mirador Cruz del Carmen. Here, too, we recommend a jacket and sweatshirt, as the temperature in the forest can be as much as 8 – 10 degrees lower than on the coast.

At the end of the day it is worth driving down to the village of Taganana – time seems to have stopped there. And if you are still hungry for excitement, not far away is one of the most beautiful beaches in Tenerife – Playa Benijo.

Day 4 – Los Gigantes Cliffs

Los Gigantes

Monumental cliffs reaching up to 800 meters high are very impressive. The cliffs can be seen from many vantage points along Tenerife’s western route. However, in our opinion, they are most impressive from the deck of a ship. It is only when you stand directly below them that you see their power. Our clients most appreciate the catamaran cruise under the Los Gigantes cliffs, which you can book here: https://oletenerife.com/catamaran-excursion-to-the-cliffs-of-los-gigantes-4-5h/ During the cruise there will also be time to swim in the Ocean at the Cliffs, and you will also go in search of dolphins and whales.

Day 5 – La Gomera

The Canary Islands are an archipelago consisting of several larger and smaller islands. The closest to Tenerife is La Gomera. It’s a tiny but extremely charming island that you can take a ferry to on your own (although you can’t take a rental car), or you can take a guided day trip: https://oletenerife.com/la-gomera-day-trip-with-a-polish-guide/ La Gomera is sure to delight you with its landscapes and local culture. And the most interesting of the experiences is a demonstration of the Silbo whistling language, which is also a UNESCO-listed site.

Day 6 – South of the island and beachcombing

The south of Tenerife is almost guaranteed sunshine at any time of the year. Therefore, 7 days in Tenerife without even one day of beachcombing is a huge waste. In the south you will find several pleasant beaches ideal for relaxation.

Costa Adeje

The modern and most developed part of the island with beautiful beaches such as Playa del Duque, and Playa Fanabe. The beaches are clean and you’ll find paid sunbeds and umbrellas on most of them. In turn, there are quite a few restaurants and bars around.

Los Cristianos

A former fishing village, today a popular resort with a pleasant promenade. There are two beaches in los Cristianos (playa Los Cristianos y playa las Vistas), both sandy with a pleasant, gentle descent into the water. A practical tip from us: if you like Italian food, Los Cristianos is the culinary hotbed.

Day 7 – Garachico and the natural lava pools

Garachico

Historic town with natural lava pools El Caletón. The history of this town is shocking. This is because it was founded on the ruins after a volcanic eruption. A walk through the old town allows you to feel the authentic atmosphere of the island. And quite nearby is Icod de los Vinos with the oldest dragon tree in Tenerife. Although the road to these places is winding, it is worth the effort to see them. It’s the perfect end to a week-long tour.

Practical tips

1. car rental

You can complete this plan on your own with a rental car or with us on guided tours.

2 Weather

Remember that the weather in Tenerife is highly variable. Statistically, the south is warmer and drier than the north. That’s why it’s always a good idea to bring clothes for both warmer and cooler weather

3. reservations

Reservations for trails and tours and car rentals are suggested to be made well in advance. In Tenerife, the tourist season lasts all year round, but there are times when there are no more places available even 2 – 3 weeks ahead.

Tenerife is an island of contrasts – from rugged, lunar landscapes to tropical vegetation.

If you plan your itinerary well, a week is completely enough to fall in love with the island.

FAQ – frequently asked questions
