Plants in Tenerife

Did you know that Tenerife is a treasure trove for nature lovers? Here you will find unusual endemic plants found only in this region. We invite you on a journey through the plant wilderness of Tenerife.

What plants are found in Tenerife?

Despite the fact that Tenerife is a relatively small island with an area of 2,034 square kilometers, there are almost 1,500 plant species, 200 of which are endemic to the Canary Islands and 140 to Tenerife. The development of the flora here was made possible by the conditions on the island. The varied terrain, the steep slopes, the light supply. It is also surprising that although the Canary Islands occupy only 1.5% of Spain’s territory, we can find more than half of the country’s endemic species here.

As you stroll along the roads of Tenerife, pay attention to the flora. It’s especially green and colorful in the north of the island, but even in popular tourist destinations you’ll find huge cacti or colorful, beautifully scented flowers. However, you can find the vast majority of endemic plants in Teide National Park. The best way to go there is by quad bike or buggy, so that in addition to learning about the flora, you’ll also have an exciting adventure.
