April is one of our favorite months on the Island of Eternal Spring. Tenerife is so named because of its mild climate throughout the year. April is a month that attracts many tourists looking to escape the capricious spring weather in other parts of Europe. Although the last few days have been quite capricious in the Canary Islands, we are already feeling the changes and the entry into a warmer time.
Tenerife – weather in April
April in Tenerife is a full spring, characterized by pleasant temperatures and plenty of sunshine. Average daytime temperatures hover around 20-24°C, which is good for both beachcombing and active sightseeing on the island. Evenings are a bit cooler, with temperatures dropping to around 15°C, so it is advisable to bring a light jacket or sweater for evening walks.
Regional differences in weather
Tenerife is an island with a diverse landscape, which affects local weather conditions. The northern part of the island, with places like Puerto de la Cruz and La Laguna, is wetter and greener. In April, temperatures in these areas range from 16°C to 22°C, and rainfall is somewhat more frequent than in the south. However, the rains are usually short-lived and should not significantly disrupt sightseeing plans.
The southern part of the island, encompassing popular resorts such as Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje, is decidedly warmer and drier. Daytime temperatures there reach 23-25°C, and the number of sunny days is higher, which is conducive to beachcombing and water sports.

The Atlantic Ocean is quite cool, regardless of the month you decide to come to Tenerife. In April, the water temperature around Tenerife averages around 19-20°C. Many tourists opt for sea bathing, especially during the warmer days. It is also worth remembering that the sensation of the water temperature is subjective and depends on individual preference. We in April enjoy water bathing regularly.
Rainfall and sunshine
Tenerife – the weather in April is characterized by little rainfall. The average rainfall in this month is about 10-20 mm, and rainy days are rare. The length of the day is about 13 hours, with the sun shining for about 8 hours a day, providing excellent conditions for sightseeing and relaxing outdoors.

With mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine, April is the ideal month for outdoor activities. Hiking in the Teide National Park, exploring the picturesque Anaga Mountains or visiting charming towns are just some of the activities to include in your itinerary. Lovers of water sports, such as surfing and snorkeling, will also find favorable conditions for their passions.

Spring in Tenerife is a time when nature awakens to life. Especially in the north of the island, in regions such as Las Mercedes and the Anaga mountains, April offers spectacular views of blooming vegetation. This is the perfect time to go hiking and admire the lush greenery and colorful flowers that adorn the island’s landscape.
What to pack for a trip in April
When planning a trip to Tenerife in April, it is advisable to bring light summer clothing for warm days and warmer clothes for cooler evenings and mornings. Longer clothing is especially useful for trips to the Teide Volcano or the Anaga Mountains. Don’t forget your swimsuit, sunglasses and UV sunscreen, as the sun on the island can be intense.
