If you’re planning a vacation to Tenerife, an unforgettable adventure is sure to await you. However, before you set off for this paradise island, it’s worth preparing properly. What should you pack for Tenerife to enjoy comfort and safety? In this article, you’ll find a practical checklist of things to take along and many tips – what to know before you go to Tenerife.

1. Tenerife – climate and temperature

Before you open your suitcase, it’s worth familiarizing yourself with the weather in Tenerife throughout the year. This will help you decide what clothes and accessories to pack.

Tenerife’s weather is mild and pleasant year-round. Temperatures rarely drop below 18°C, and in summer they can reach up to 30°C. Depending on the region of the island – north or south – the weather can vary slightly:

  • Tenerife South (Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje) – sunny and dry, perfect for sunbathing.
  • Tenerife North (e.g. Puerto de la Cruz) – greener, wetter, but also cooler.

What is worth knowing – in higher elevations, such as in Teide National Park or the Anaga Mountains, temperatures are significantly lower, especially in the morning and evening.

No matter when you arrive for your vacation, it’s always worth being prepared for anything in Tenerife. One day you could be sunbathing on the beach, and the next, you could be wandering through misty, cool forests.

You can read more about the weather here.

2. Documents and basics – what should you take with you?

✅ Travel documents:

  • Passport
  • A driving license is essential in physical form if you plan to rent a car or take part in attractions such as quads or buggies.
  • Travel insurance policy

✅ Finances:

  • Payment card (Visa or Mastercard are widely accepted).
  • Some cash (euros), e.g. for tips – although in Tenerife you can easily pay by card in most places.

3. Clothes – what to pack for a holiday in Tenerife?

Tenerife is the island of eternal summer, but that doesn’t mean you can only pack flip-flops and a swimsuit. Here’s a list of clothes you should pack:

🏖️ Beach clothes:

  • Swimsuits (preferably at least 2).
  • Flip-flops or sandals.
  • Beach towel – if you forget it, you can buy one at the beach stalls for about 5 euros.
  • Sunglasses with UV filter.
  • Cap or sun hat
  • Pareo or light shoulder covering.

🥾 For trips and sightseeing:

  • Comfortable shoes (e.g. sports shoes, trekking shoes) – if you plan to walk through the Masca Gorge – trekking shoes are required.
  • Light, airy clothes.
  • A sweatshirt or thin jacket – especially useful in the evening or in the mountains.
  • Windproof/waterproof jacket (if you are planning a trip to mountainous regions).
  • Small bagpack
  • If you are going to Tenerife in winter and planning a trip to the Teide Volcano, we recommend taking a winter jacket and a hat.

🌆 For evenings:

  • Something more elegant—a dress, shirt, and light trousers. Some restaurants have an evening dress code.
  • Flat-soled shoes (many places, especially in smaller towns, have cobblestone streets and steep climbs).

4. Cosmetics and hygiene – what is worth having?

A vacacion in Tenerife means intense sun and salty water, so skin and hair care is especially important.

☀️ Cosmetics:

  • Sun cream with UV filter (min. SPF 30 or higher).
  • After-sun lotion (e.g. with aloe) – you can buy aloe almost everywhere in Tenerife, from dedicated shops to large supermarkets and small shops on the promenade
  • Moisturizing cream.
  • Shampoo and hair conditioner (preferably regenerating).
  • Deodorant, shower gel, toothpaste, etc.
  • Small first aid kit: painkillers, antidiarrheals, plasters, bite medicine.
  • Antibacterial hand gel.

Most cosmetics are widely available in Tenerife, and their prices are similar to those in Poland.

6. Extras that will make your life easier

Tenerife: What’s worth knowing? The better you prepare for your trip, the less stress you’ll have when you arrive. So, don’t forget:

  • An island guide (e.g. the one available on our social media – download here) or downloaded offline maps – Tenerife has very good internet, so if you have it in your roaming, Google Maps will work great
  • Photocopies of documents.
  • Earplugs and an eye mask – useful on a plane.
  • SIM cards with internet or EU roaming activated.

7. What to leave at home?

Many people bring things that just take up space in their suitcases. What don’t you need in Tenerife?

  • Umbrella (if it really rains, you can buy one on site, although you certainly won’t need it).
  • Warm clothes – the exception is a trip to Teide.
  • Iron – most hotels offer access to an iron.
  • Heavy cosmetics – miniatures are enough, and most products can be purchased cheaply locally.

8. Tenerife – what is worth knowing before you go?

  • Language: the official language is Spanish, but in the resorts you can easily communicate in English or German.
  • Currency: euro.
  • Transport: TITSA bus service is good, but renting a car is the best option for sightseeing.
  • Safety: The island is very safe, but like anywhere else, it’s worth watching out for pickpockets in tourist areas.
  • Attractions: Tenerife offers a wealth of attractions: Teide Volcano, Loro Parque, Siam Park, Los Gigantes Cliffs, Masca, black sand beaches, and much more. You can find all the attractions in our offer – check here.
